Federico Chiesa’s struggles in a Liverpool jersey continued at the weekend, as he wasn’t called up to the squad for the game against West Ham.
He has played just once in the Premier League since his arival and the lack of game time has raised questions about his future at Liverpool.
On Sunday, Napoli were mentioned as a candidate to sighnh him and it was reported that the Reds have now opened up to the possibility of letting Chiesa depart on loan.
Interest from Fiorentina has now emerged and FirenzeViola‘s Mario Tenerani has written about the Florence club’s liking for their ex-winger.
In his column for the outlet, Tenerani wrote: “There’s a rumor going around for a while now that there’s a Viola trail for Chiesa. You might say it’s fantasy football. Instead, perhaps it’s not just a January fairy tale, like so many others, by the way. It seems that Fiorentina are really thinking about it and not just now.”
Providing further details about the situation, the journalist revealed: “Last summer there were rumors of under-the-radar explorations, while now there’s something more.”
“There’s one obstacle, however, that’s not easy to overcome – his salary. At Liverpool, where his experience is already over, Chiesa earns a net salary of just under €7 million euros. Completely out of reach for the Viola club.”
The 27-year-old’s wage demands will be an issue for Fiorentina, but it remains to be seen if Liverpool open up to the possibility of paying part of Chiesa’s wages in a potential loan deal.
Considering he’s not made an impact since his summer move, a loan exit could help the Italian regain his confidence.
