Former Chelsea winger Gabriele Ambrosetti has told the Italian media he’s not surprised Antonio Conte is so far proving to be a successful appointment by the club. The 43 year old spent four seasons owned by Chelsea before heading back to Italy.
Conte arrived in the summer and after a shaky start has taken the West London side to the top of the Premier League table.
It’s not a fluke, Chelsea are playing well under Conte and it’s completely clear the squad have bought into the Italian’s plans.
Speaking to TMW Radio, Ambrosetti said Conte came into a squad which was low on morale following the disappointments of last season under Jose Mourinho. Despite having the same players from the previous campaign Ambrosetti believes Conte has been able to galvanise the squad, and is showing he is the ideal man for the job.
“I’m not at all surprised, we all know Conte could do the job. He has good players, coming from a negative year, and has managed to touch the right chords in the group. It’s a more international championship than the one in which I played,” said the former Chelsea player.
Chelsea’s form this season is a total contrast to that under Mourinho, when the club were in the bottom half of the table at this stage of the campaign. Conte’s team have won their last 6 league games, and are currently 1 point ahead of second placed Liverpool.
