Former Celtic forward Pierre van Hooijdonk has criticised Chelsea over their transfer handling of Marco van Ginkel. The young midfielder recently rejoined PSV for his second loan spell with the Dutch club.
Voetbal Primeur have reported on comments Van Hooijdonk made when he was asked about the situation with the Chelsea youngster. Antonio Conte allowed the Dutchman to join PSV on loan to regain his fitness, but Van Hooijdonk doesn’t understand why is he still at the club if there’s no prospect of chances.
The former Netherlands international said Van Ginkel has hardly played for Chelsea in the four years he’s been at the club, and spent most of that time out on loan.
“The idea of the club is a mystery to me. Do not misunderstand me, Van Ginkel is a great player, but why hasn’t he been given a serious chance in London? After all these years, there is a grand total of eleven minutes playing for Chelsea in the league behind him.”
Van Ginkel joined Chelsea from Vitesse in 2013, but so far has only played two league games for the West London side. During his time at Chelsea he’s been sent out on loan to Vitesse, Stoke City, AC Milan, and now he’s having his second spell at PSV.
