Former Bolton Wanderers forward Johan Elmander has told the Swedish media he was disappointed to be utilised as winger whilst at the club. The Swede spent three seasons with Bolton before moving on to Turkey.

Speaking to Fotball Direckt, Elmander was asked about his time at Bolton, and the impressive statistics he had in his final season with them.

The former Sweden international said it was good to have such a record, but he still wasn’t happy playing wide to accommodate other players. The 35-year-old highlighted he only played a handful of games that season down the middle because Daniel Sturridge was brought in on loan, and because the manager was never going to leave out Bolton’s captain Kevin Davies.

“Yes, it is, and it’s also disappointing at Bolton where I was doing good, but I was relegated to the wing, and played just four or five games in the centre. I led the scorers chart, but then Sturridge came in on loan, and you do not leave out the captain,” said the former Bolton star.

Elmander signed for Bolton from Toulouse in 2008 for a record fee for the club. The forward played nearly 100 league games for the Bolton, scoring 18 goals. After Bolton he went on to play for a number of clubs, and is now back playing in his home country.
