Former Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has been dishing out some advice to young Bayern Munich player Joshua Kimmich. The 22 year old has spoken over the past week about his frustration at playing a back-up role at Bayern, and that’s inevitably led to questions about Kimmich’s future.
Kimmich has been linked with a move to Manchester City, where he’d reunite with Pep Guardiola, who rated him so highly in Germany.
Podolski himself has spent times during his career frustrated at being on the bench. It happened at Arsenal and the former German international spoke out repeatedly about wanting to be more in Arsene Wenger’s plans.
Wenger had different ideas and whilst Podolski was used at Arsenal it wasn’t as much as the striker would have liked. Olivier Giroud and others got the nod more often and eventually Podolski had to leave Arsenal for Galatasaray.
The 31 year old believes Kimmich is young enough to have time for patience, but has an idea if an exit is the desired outcome. Quoted by SportBild, Podolski didn’t recommended Arsenal, but rather a move to the North of England: “Manchester City and Pep Guardiola would also be an option for Kimmich. They do not have the very best in his position. Joshua is a guy who plays in-between and plays really good football.”
