Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud took part in a marketing event to promote his new football boots on Tuesday. During most of the time, journalists watched and commented on his scorpion kick goal against Crystal Palace scored two weeks ago.
ESPN Brasil journalist João Castelo Branco asked the player if he was getting tired of the questions about the goal, and Giroud said: “Yeah, I think it’s nice from you to ask. It’s been a few times, I mean, plenty of times I’m speaking about this goal. But I think it’s normal, it’s a special one, so yeah, I’m very proud to have scored this kind of goal. Football will remember about this one.”
Questioned if this was the best goal of his career, the player had to agree: “Of course, of course, yes. Because it was unexpected, it was acrobatic. I’d never scored a goal like that.”
Then Castelo Branco told Giroud that besides Arsenal having a big fan base in Brazil, there’s also many female supporters who admire him for his looks. Asked how he takes all the attention, the striker said: “It’s nice, it’s a good compliment. But I take it easy. I prefer to be recognised on the pitch with my performances. But I just can say thanks, mummy.”
With five goals in his last five Arsenal games, Giroud has scored ten times this season, being only behind Alexis Sanchez (16) and Theo Walcott (11) in the list of the club’s top scorers. But the Frenchman’s rate is by far the most impressive: one goal every 84 minutes.
