Pablo Maffeo hasn’t had a bad Sunday.
The Manchester City owned youngster, on loan for the season at Girona, helped his side to a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid. Maffeo was one of the best players on the pitch, and managed to contribute to Girona’s success with an assist.
Since moving to Girona, the 20 year old’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed, and there’s been repeat claims of Valencia interest. Indeed, there’s even been suggestions from the Valencia media that a transfer could be possible for the player next summer.
Manchester City surely wouldn’t want to lose Maffeo, and certainly not without a buyback clause, but the topic of the player’s future is one which won’t be left alone.
Ahead of the match, Spanish newspaper Marca had a feature on Maffeo, and what happens at the end of this season was touched upon. Keeping his options very much open, Maffeo himself was quoted as saying: “I don’t know. That depends on the end of the season and depending on the performance. Now, it is true that it is very good and I want to continue this way to achieve greater things. Football can change your life in two months.”
It seems there’s little way Maffeo is going to return to Manchester City to not play football, he’s progressed too much now for that, and another transfer looks on the agenda, whether that be loan or permanent.
That is unless Pep Gaurdiola fancies giving the youngster a real go in Manchester City’s team.
