On Wednesday, Brazilian TV channel RedeTV ran a story about the success Jorginho’s passing skills have been having at Chelsea.
The outlet brought some quotes from an interview they conducted with him after Sunday’s game against West Ham, when he broke the Premier League record of most completed passes.
“I always enjoyed being with the ball, always playing with my teammates,” Jorginho told RedeTV. “Of finding the one-two plays, of passing between the lines.”
Jorginho started his career at Serie A side Hellas Verona, and made a move to Napoli in 2014. That’s where he met Maurizio Sarri, who had a big influence on his game.
“I think it made it a lot easier after I met the manager, Sarri. Because his work method always has options of plays, and makes it a lot easier.”
Jorginho made the move to Chelsea on a €57m deal this summer. And although people advised him about how hard the Premier League can be, he claims that his adaptation hasn’t been very difficult.
“About the league, yes, everyone was talking about the issue of more physical strength and all. But there is proof that football is also the head, not only strength.”
Despite being born in Brazil and speaking perfect Portuguese with Brazilian media outlets, Jorginho ended up picking the Italian national team, and already has nine international appearances for them.
