Last week, DH in Belgium reported that Manchester City were prepared to let Jason Denayer go on yet another loan somewhere as they continue to try and get him the first-team football he wouldn’t get at the Etihad currently.
First sent to Celtic and then Galatasaray, the young defender has spent this season on loan at Sunderland, where he was unable to prevent them from getting relegated to the Championship after a few years of flirting with the bottom of the table.
Of course, staying beyond this season at the Stadium of Light, for a player aspiring to be part of Roberto Martinez’s squad for the 2018 World Cup next year, is unimaginable, and a return to Manchester City at the end of the season is fully expected.
Planning to send him straight back out elsewhere, Pep Guardiola could allow him a move to Anderlecht, with RTBF in Belgium suggesting the two could be made for each other next season.
Spending a vast majority of the current campaign playing either as a defensive midfielder or a centre-back, Denayer could be a great utility player for the Belgian side, set to lose (most likely) Youri Tielemans and Kara in the upcoming transfer window, with Leander Dendoncker also a potential exit.
If this scenario pans out, having someone capable of playing either in midfield or at the back would be a godsend for the Jupiler Pro League side.
It makes sense. Now let’s see if it happens.
