Following the news from this week saying Manchester United and Real Madrid would be keen on taking Éder Militão from Porto, club president Pinto da Costa has ruled out a January move.

O Jogo‘s front page story today brings quotes from the president saying that there’s actually been no approaches for the defender, and revealing that they’re trying to give the player a new deal.

“There has been talk of one or two clubs, who were careful to call me to say that the interest was a lie. Militão will not leave in January. Then let’s see,” Pinto da Costa told O Jogo, who included Manchester United and Real Madrid in the text right where he said ‘two clubs’.

“He has a release clause , but we are trying to negotiate a contract renewal to increase the clause because we want to keep him. He arrived three months ago and three months ago no one thought of him.”

O Jogo writes that Militão’s release clause is currently €50m. So in case Porto succeed in giving him a new contract, things would get a lot harder.

When reporting Man United’s approach for the defender, A Bola made it clear that he was a target for José Mourinho, so it’s now unclear if the club would continue to follow him after the manager’s departure.
