Valencia are showing an interest in Norrkoping defender Linus Wahlqvist, according to claims in the Spanish media. The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to Leeds United in recent months, following their attempts to sign the right back in the summer.

Super Deporte have reported Valencia sent scouts to Marbella to get a lowdown on Wahlqvist whilst he played for Sweden’s U21 side. Wahlqvist started the game against Serbia as Sweden began their preparations for the U21 European Championships this summer.

The youngster was named in the U21 squad rather than the seniors as he’s seen as a key player for his country’s chances in the competition this summer. The versatile Swede played 82 minutes of the game as a central defender.

There were reports during the last window that Leeds United are still interested in the player after he said he would play in the Championship. Leeds United’s recent run sees them as serious promotion contenders, and as such the club is becoming more attractive to potential signings.

Leeds United will face stiff competition to sign Wahlqvist, as well as convincing the player to leave Sweden as this stage of his career.
