Greek website Sdna report French club Montpellier could rival Celtic for AEK goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas.
We covered reports from Greece press last week which said The Bhoys have had a €3.5m offer rejected by the Athens club. With the uncertainty over the future of Fraser Forster with the Scottish Premiership champions, Neil Lennon could be in the market for an experienced goalkeeper this summer.
It’s reported AEK sporting director Ilija Ivic values the player in the region of €7m, and Celtic’s offer has been deemed to be ‘not good enough’.
Sdna claim it’s currently unclear whether Celtic will return with an improved bid, and it’s claimed Montpellier could rival the Scottish giants.
Montpellier are said to be in talks with Basel goalkeeper Jonas Omlin, and if they can’t sign him, they could switch their attention to Barkas.
The 26 year old has been one of the most important players for Massimo Carrera’s side this season, keeping 16 clean sheets in 33 appearances. His contract with the Greek side will expire at the end of June 2022.
