Florian Thauvin’s move from Marseille to Newcastle United promised much for the Geordie faithful but ultimately delivered little. Thauvin had found a club he loved in Marseille and whilst his form there wasn’t brilliantly consistent, it was probably the place he should have stayed to get to that level.

Newcastle’s money was too tempting for then cash strapped Marseille and Thuavin made the move to St James Park. Things quickly didn’t work out and Thauvin returned on loan to Marseille last season, with a loan-to-permanent deal being agreed with Rafa Benitez’s men in the last summer window.

Back at Marseille, Thauvin has looked really at home. He’s clearly happy at the club and with new owners in place the future looks much brighter.

However, Monday night saw a scary episode for the 23 year old. He was the subject of a planned car attack. A moped went into the back of Thauvin’s car, which then led him to inspect the damage. La Provence report that Thuavin was then ‘violently assaulted’ from behind.

One of the men on the scooter strangled Thauvin from behind and tried to take his €25k watch. Thauvin fought back, with La Provence saying he’s rather good at self defence. The footballer twisted away from the throttling and ran off, his attackers couldn’t catch him, and took refuge in a nearby house.
