Mauricio Pochettino committed his future to Tottenham Hotspur by signing a five-year deal at the north London club on May 24th. A week later, Zinedine Zidane announced his decision to step down as Real Madrid manager after guiding them to three Champions League success in less than three years.
Real president Florentino Perez has identified Pochettino as a key target to replace Zidane at Santiago Bernabeu. In the past, the Spanish capital club have negotiated with Tottenham while signing Luka Modric and Gareth Bale in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Perez is aware that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is a tough negotiator, so it will not be easy for Real president to convince him to allow Pochettino leave the club, especially when he signed a new deal in May.
Marca reports Levy wont’ make it easy for Perez and Real if they have to make an approach for the Argentine coach, but they do point out the pair share a good relationship.
Perez “doesn’t hesitate” to visit Levy at his Florida mansion say Marca, pushing forward an unlikely friendship.
Maybe this is what became of the special relationship the two clubs announced at the time of the Gareth Bale deal.
