Europe awaited Liverpool’s match with Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening, and Europe was left a little disappointed.
The 0-0 draw and show was below the expectations of many, although it does set up a great second leg to be held in Germany.
French newspaper L’Equipe clearly weren’t impressed, giving the match 2 out of 6 stars. Lyon versus Barcelona was also a goalless draw, but the French newspaper gave 4, double the score, for that.
After the match a little fire was finally ignited as Jurgen Klopp displayed his anger towards Niko Kovac, and was clearly seen to be shouting at the Bayern Munich manager.
The Liverpool boss then explained that he was annoyed Kovac hadn’t quickly gone to shake his hand, as is the tradition in English football.
Kovac himself wanted to see his players first, and is quoted by Bild as saying: “It’s common in England to shake hands after the final whistle. But first I go to my bench and not to him. He knows that differently from England. But it was not meant bad, I apologised after that.”
The Bayern boss probably didn’t need to apologise, and Klopp’s anger probably has as much to do with a frustrating night for Liverpool at Anfield as it does a belated handshake.
