Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino seemed pretty relieved after his team found a late winner at Goodison Park last night.
Speaking to ESPN Brasil, the 25-year-old celebrated the difficult derby win, saying the Reds ‘gave everything’ to get the three points.
Asked about Daniel Sturridge’s performance after being brought on as a sub, Firmino built up his teammate’s importance to the squad.
“Sturridge is an excellent player. Everyone knows the quality he has. It’s great for our team to have quality players like him and it will only help us.”
The Brazilian was also questioned about his compatriot Philippe Coutinho, who missed Liverpool’s last five matches due to an ankle injury.
Firmino believes it won’t take long until the midfielder returns: “In our team, when a player gets injured, we try to play for him. And we got these wins. Of course Coutinho is much missed by our team, but soon he’ll be helping us.”
Speaking of the title race, Firmino claims they’ll be fighting until the end and they hope that Antonio Conte’s Chelsea drop points in the near future.
“We’re doing our part and they’re doing theirs. We hope for a stumble. That’s the Premier League, much fought until the last match and that’s how it will be, with our team fighting, achieving the wins and waiting for the others’ stumbles.”
With the win, Liverpool kept themselves in second place in the Premier League table, five points behind Chelsea. Roberto Firmino has five goals an five assists in this campaign.
