During the January transfer window, Ishak Belfodil was supposed to be moving to Everton. Even the forward’s teammates joked about the potential transfer and it was considered all agreed by his then club Standard Liege.
The Everton transfer collapsed and the resultant blame game in Belgium turned into a farce. Everton were blamed, and then it started to look like an internal Standard issue, with various people in a war of words via the Belgian media.
Belfodil missed his dream transfer to Everton, but was set to get the chance to move to England again during the summer, this time with Championship club Fulham.
Over the weekend Het Belang van Limburg spoke to Belfodil, who has now moved to Werder Bremen initially on loan: “I had financially very interesting offers from England and some clubs from Moscow. But I decided not to go in and wait for better.”
The Belgian newspaper says the England reference is about Fulham.
Belfodil was linked to Fulham during the summer transfer window, but a whole string of forwards were. Het Belang van Limburg credit the comment as being about Fulham with some certainty, and it would be an odd one for them to pluck from thin air.
