Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen has hinted he is more than open to remaining at the club in the summer when his contract expires.

Fotboll Skanalen cover comments from the goalkeeper today in which he insists no decision has been made about his future yet.

Olsen’s current deal with Aston Villa expires in the summer and so far, all indications have been that he will depart Villa Park for ventures new.

Indeed, Aston Villa have already been linked with replacements for the goalkeeper, who is the number two behind Emi Martinez in Unai Emery’s squad.

It would bring an end to a three year stay at Aston Villa for Olsen, who joined the club on a permanent basis in 2022 after initially joining on loan in the January transfer window that year.

It would also bring an end to a five year stay in England that’s seen him spend time on loan at Everton and Sheffield United before his move to Villa Park.

At 35-years-old the idea of a return to his homeland might be appealing and has been suggested, but it seems Olsen isn’t putting anything concrete out there yet.

“We’ll see how it goes. Now I will try to enjoy the final matches, the last few months. Then we’ll see. There is a lot to flap for me personally but also for the family. I’ll keep it open,” he said.

“It is a choice to be made. But again, it’s a choice that has to suit me but, above all, the family. It’s important to think everything through because it’s not as simple as just packing your bag and leaving. There’s a lot more to be done.

“School for the children will be the most important thing. We are super happy with how things are for the kids right now back home in England.

“We will see. We’re keeping everything open and then we’ll take it from there. We’re busy with other things. The club is doing great, so people are very focused on the end now. We have a lot of games that mean a lot to the club. So, we haven’t talked about it.”

Making it quite he quite fancies staying at Aston Villa, Olsen also said: “We have so many positive things to look forward to at the club. When I came to Aston Villa we were at the bottom, and to be part of the journey that we started when Unai (Emery, manager) came in is incredible. It’s fantastic to be a part of it.

“When we have made it this far in the Champions League, have a chance at the FA Cup and a chance to climb up in the Premier League, I see absolutely no reason to leave it.”
