Flamengo are considering signing Fulham’s Andreas Pereira, according to journalist Julio Miguel Neto.
He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state Flamengo are looking to replace injured Giorgian De Arrascaeta with Pereira.
Julio Miguel Neto says the Fulham player is ‘well regarded internally’ by the Brazilian club, who are monitoring his situation.
The 29-year-old was on loan at Flamengo from Manchester United during the 2021/22 season.
Globo Esporte have poured cold water on the possibility of the midfielder returning to his former club. They also explain why the ‘negotiations didn’t advance’ in the past.
Flamengo wanted to retain him after his loan spell in 2022. The report states they had an agreement with the Red Devils to buy Pereira for €10m before the board unanimously decided not to go ahead.
This allowed Marco Silva’s side to sign the Brazil international permanently in July 2022. Flamengo again looked at him in the winter market, along with Palmeiras. The latter even made a €20m bid which wasn’t entertained.
Pereira had earlier stated he would like to return to Flamengo, but Globo claim it won’t happen, at least in the near future. That’s because the ‘figures are far from Flamengo’s reality’.
The report states they have to sell players rather than sign in order to balance their books.
In addition to the financial aspect, their priority for midfield is Arsenal’s Jorginho. His contract expires in June and various reports from Brazil have stated the 33-year-old is set to join Flamengo in the summer window.
On Thursday, Bolavip Brasil reported Pereira refuses to extend his contract beyond 2026. This has convinced Fulham to make him available in the summer window.
