Bruno Guimarães is clearly genuinely pleased with his move to Newcastle United and was happy to get the deal done in January.

Shortly after the initial claims came from France of the Magpies making an offer for the midfielder, there were claims in Brazil that the offer had been accepted.

Then it was stated the player himself was keen on a move to the Premier League club, before Lyon denied they’d actually agreed to anything at all.

That wasn’t out of character for the Ligue 1 side, with similar claims coming just before other big transfers. It’s now down to Guimarães to show he was worth the investment and can help steer Newcastle away from the trapdoor to the Championship.

Over at Lyon, it would appear everything isn’t going swimmingly.

The club signed Jerome Boateng as a free agent last summer, after the former Bayern Munich defender saw his options far more limited than he expected.

Saturday’s edition of L’Equipe reports that Boateng has been dropped from the club’s squad this weekend, partly due to poor performances and partly due to his attitude.

It’s stated the player became annoyed with Guimarães a few weeks ago, and the subsequent ‘fight had to be broken up by several people’.

Boateng ‘came to blows’ with the now Newcastle player, and the midfielder isn’t the only teammate who he’s had trouble with.
