Quite often a huge claim can be made in the football media, it become a thing across Europe, and it then disappear without a trace.
However, when Turkish clubs are involved and there’s an insinuation of them somehow being disrespected, rumours which would usually melt away are taken head-on.
That’s the case regarding Jose Mourinho and claims he could end up at Everton.
Friedkin Group are in the process of taking over at Everton, and they also own Serie A club AS Roma. In January of this year, Roma pushed Mourinho out of the door after a string of bad results.
It didn’t end with flowers being exchanged between the parties, so a reunion so soon always appeared far fetched to say the least.
Mourinho is currently at Fenerbahçe, and the Super Lig club have directly dressed these claims.
Sunday’s edition of Hurriyet, quotes a club official as saying: “There is no offer from Everton, and even if there was, Mourinho only has Fenerbahçe in mind. He is completely focused on his job.”
It’s also made clear the Everton rumour hasn’t come from the manager’s camp, which suggests Jorge Mendes is surprised by the sudden claim too.
