Despite only making the one appearance for Aston Villa during the second half of the campaign, Robin Olsen seemingly convinced everyone at the club he was worth keeping around.
Triggering the £3m or so option agreed in the loan deal with AS Roma, the Villans have found themselves a very good backup for Emiliano Martinez going forward, and the Sweden international seems very happy with the move as well.
Currently with his national team for the Nations League, the new Aston Villa signing was asked about the situation.
He said, relayed by Fotbollskanalen: “It feels incredibly nice. A new adventure, so to speak. There is no loan. Now we know that we will stay there for three years. It’s a fantastic club and it’s incredibly nice that it’s been resolved.
“I feel how much I’ve developed in just the five or six months I’ve been there. We started talking early about triggering the clause, but then a few other things made it take time. It’s very nice that it was resolved.”
Olsen made his one appearance in the final game of the season against Manchester City, in a game that could have helped Steven Gerrard’s former side, Liverpool, win the Premier League had Aston Villa kept Pep Guardiola’s men at bay.
However, despite taking a 2-0 lead, the Swede and his teammates were unable to do so, as the Cityzens scored three goals in the space of five minutes to take the lead and eventually lift the trophy.
