When Tottenham Hotspur sold Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis in the summer, they also secured a priority option to sign Johnny Cardoso.
Lo Celso is impressing in his time at Betis and Cardoso has carried on his good form from last season, also attracting attention from Milan in the last few weeks.
The USA International is quickly becoming an in-demand entity and this has been confirmed by Estadio Deportivo.
They state that Atletico Madrid are big admirers of the midfielder and Diego Simeone has some spoken to Andrea Berta about a potential move for the 23-year-old. Cardoso is one of the names on Atleti’s shortlist for midfield signings.
The outlet explains that what Spurs have isn’t a ‘priority option’. It is a fixed price that is set specifically for them, making it easier for to sign the American before anyone else can.
It is mentioned that AC Milan aren’t making a move for Cardoso yet and his entourage has fielded enquiries from Turkish, Greek and Saudi clubs.
The feeling, for now in Spain, is that Cardoso will join Tottenham. And if Atletico Madrid don’t push forward, Spurs will end up signing the midfielder soon enough.
