Signed by Manchester United to take over from David De Gea, André Onana hasn’t had the dream start at Old Trafford he was hoping for.
The €50m signing has almost become the poster boy for the very poor start to the season of Erik ten Hag’s side, making some poor mistakes along the way that have cost his side unnecessary goals.
However, there are many who still believe the Manchester United signing can turn things around, including former goalkeeper Cameroon international Carlos Kameni, who sat down for a chat with Afrik-Foot.
Among the various topics, Onana was brought up and while the 39-year-old, who plays for Antequera CF in Spain’s third division these days, was predicting better days for the Red Devils player, he has probably gone as low as he can go for now.
“He was lauded last season and was very expected this year. It’s not easy. He needs to find his bearings in his new team and know his teammates. It’s important for him. He’s a very good goalkeeper. His ability isn’t questioned, but everything goes so quickly in football that you quickly forget what happened yesterday.”
The 27-year-old was bought by Manchester United after his great season at Inter Milan, where he was reunited with his former Ajax Amsterdam manager.
Since arriving, he has conceded 38 goals in 23 games, including 14 in 5 in the Champions League; a competition he excelled in last year.
