Argentina’s Ovacion report that whilst doctors from the Argentina national set-up are optimistic about Ramiro Funes Mori’s injury situation, those close to the Everton defender are more worried about the situation.
The initial diagnosis was of a not too serious meniscus issue, which would likely see Funes Mori return for Everton within weeks. However, the fear ‘in the environment’ of the Everton player worsened because it’s the same knee Funes Mori hurt in 2012 when playing for River Plate in a match against Boca Juniors.
The Everton defender flew back to England on a private jet after the match, accompanied by Daniel Martinez, Argentina’s national team doctor. Ovacion say it’s only on Friday that Funes Mori will have a scan to determine the full damage and receive a firm diagnosis of the situation.
Whatever that diagnosis is, it’s probably best for Ronald Koeman to plan for the Merseyside derby without the defender.
