Progress has been made regarding Gerard Deulofeu’s future, according to Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean the Spaniard will be leaving Goodison Park just yet.
The Italian newspaper have reported in their print edition that an official written offer has been faxed by AC Milan to Everton regarding a transfer for the 22-year-old, yet the Serie A side have been made to wait until the beginning of next week.
Gazzetta state the offer is a response to Everton’s demands of including a buy out clause in any temporary deal that could be negotiated, having already rejected Milan’s first offer of a simple six-month loan.
Milan, however, don’t want this buy out clause to be compulsory, only optional, as they are reluctant to force their prospective Chinese new owners into making purchases before the takeover of the club is even completed.
This article by Gazzetta backs up claims from Calciomercato on Tuesday night that contact between the two clubs was still ongoing.
The main issue remained the future of Mbaye Niang, whose ‘childish attitudes’ have started to concern a few in the Milan hierarchy, and if this isn’t addressed, a sale next summer could even be considered.
The arrival of the Everton winger in January would certainly provide him with some great competition to help him prove his worth, yet it could also backfire and stop him from playing altogether.
It’s a tricky situation, and one Milan need to consider carefully, but it seems they have at least made their mind up regarding Deulofeu, if Gazzetta are to be believed.
