Tottenham Hotspur are interested to sign Barcelona’s Franck Kessié, according to Sport.

The Ivory Coast international has made five starts in all competitions this term. He wants to have more prominence but is aware the situation is complicated due to competition at the Catalan club.

This has alerted Tottenham and they have directly probed Barca about the possibility of bringing the 25-year-old to the north London club. Meanwhile, Inter Milan and Napoli have registered their interest with the player’s agent.

Despite the interest from Italy, Sport’s title says Spurs are ‘favourite’ to get the former AC Milan star. Within the report, they add that Antonio Conte’s side are ‘best positioned’ in the transfer chase.

It’s explained all three clubs want to take Kessié on a loan deal, with Tottenham willing to include a purchase option. Spurs could make an effort since Conte knows the player well from his time in Italy.

Kessié earns €5m per year, likely after tax, at Barca and this is holding back his suitors. Tottenham, along with the two Serie A sides, are asking him to reduce his salary demands.

There will be more clarity on Kessié’s future later this month. At the moment, everything indicates he will finish the season at Barcelona after his agent met with the club’s sporting leaders. In addition to this, the midfielder has a firm desire to continue at the Camp Nou.

If Xavi Hernández decides to do without Kessié, then he would not cause ‘any problems to leave’ the Camp Nou.
