Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez played a key role in helping Argentina make it to the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup.

Martínez has been the first-choice keeper since he joined the Villans in 2020, but that could change in 2023.

Fichajes.net state his relationship with Unai Emery is ‘not very good’ and therefore, Aston Villa ‘will do everything’ to sign a new keeper in January.

Emery has identified Yassine Bounou, known as Bono, as the target. The English club, along with others, have asked Sevilla about his situation.

The La Liga side are clear and have set €40m as the Morocco international’s starting price. If Aston Villa’s interest is ‘high’, it won’t be strange if Sevilla sporting director Monchi refers to the player’s €50m release clause.

Even though other clubs are looking at Bono, Fichajes.net insist Aston Villa are ‘favourite’ and ‘best placed’ to secure the 31-year-old’s services. The Premier League side have been told the minimum fee they need to sign Bono in the winter market.

Like Martínez, Bono has starred in Qatar, conceding one goal from four games. He became Morocco’s hero after they eliminated Spain from the World Cup. The keeper’s focus will be on helping the Atlas Lions beat Portugal later today to seal a berth in the semi-final.
