Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez aims to return to Club Atlético Independiente in the future.
That’s according to the Argentina international’s father, Alberto Martínez, and he made this claim during an interview with TyC Sports.
The Aston Villa player is a product of Independiente’s academy and spent two years with them before moving to Europe in 2010, when Arsenal signed him.
Emiliano couldn’t cement a place at the north London club and after several loan spells, he left them for the Villans in 2020. He’s been a regular at Villa Park and that helped his career with Argentina.
The 31-year-old’s current deal at Aston Villa lasts until 2027 and his father has revealed the aim is for him to return to the Argentine club before his career ends.
“From what I know about Emi, if he wants to come, he’s going to come to Independiente and not to another club, he wants to come healthy at 36 or 37 years old,” he said.
“He doesn’t want to come to finish his career at Independiente badly.”
Last March, when Fabián Doman was the Independiente president, he opened the door for the Aston Villa goalkeeper to return to the club.
With Alberto now publicly talking about the possibility of Emiliano’s return, the Argentine club’s supporters can hope to see him represent Independiente at some point in the future.
