Nottingham Forest made a late attempt to beat Aston Villa in the race to sign Rosenborg BK’s Sverre Nypan.

That’s according to TV2 in Norway, who provide the latest on Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest’s attempt for the 18-year-old.

Over the past week or so, various claims from Norway and England have said Aston Villa are the favourites to sign Nypan.

Nottingham Forest have entered the battle for the midfielder. TV2 now state Nuno Espírito Santo’s side were late in their attempt as he’s already decided to join the Villans.

Aston Villa director Monchi was in Oslo on Monday to watch the youngster live in action against Vålerenga. Nettavisen also reported he had a meeting with the youngster’s father, Arne Nypan.

TV2 backs it up and explain that the Premier League club’s official didn’t meet the player. They add Unai Emery’s side, however, have ‘practically agreed’ personal terms with Sverre Nypan.

Aston Villa are yet to find an agreement with Rosenborg and they aren’t expected to face any problems despite Nottingham Forest’s late attempt.

Rosenborg sporting director Micke Dorsin has already insisted his side will earn well from the teenager’s sale. TV2 now state they are requesting for 150m kroner [€12.7m] for his sale.

Meanwhile, Arne has confirmed to Adresseavisen, relayed by VG, that he had a meeting with Monchi.

“It was pleasant. But there were no negotiations. Just a very pleasant meeting [with Monchi] before an exciting football match,” he said.

Nypan Sr. says he and his son had visited Aston Villa in January and now hails them as a ‘fantastic’ club.

“I understand that there are many rumours surrounding Sverre. Villa are also a big and fantastic club. Beyond that, I have no comment,” Arne Nypan explained.
