Genoa fans have demanded Enrico Preziosi sells the club after an attempted takeover by Massimo Cellino failed in recent days. Cellinio is hoping for a quick return to football after selling his remaining shares in Leeds United last month.
It’s been well reported in recent weeks Cellino is hoping for a return to Italian football after leaving Leeds United. In the past couple of weeks the former Cagliari chief has been locked in talks with Genoa.
However, this week it became clear Cellino and Preziosi wouldn’t be able to come to a financial agreement, and subsequently discussions have stalled.
This has led to anger among the Genoa fans, who have taken to the streets, according to reports in Italy. They’ve demand Preziosi steps down as the Serie A side’s president, and that he sells the club.
Last season they displayed their anger at the Genoa leaders, and only halted their protests because the club were in a relegation fight.
Cellino found himself in the same situation with Leeds Untied fans last year when they urged the Italian to sell the club. During his three years in England in charge of Leeds United Cellino brought controversy to the club, and many of the Elland Road faithful are glad to see the back of him.
Strangely enough, some Genoa fans were also annoyed at the prospect of Cellino moving from Leeds to their club, but many more just want to see the back of Preziosi.
