No club have been linked to Andre Gomes more than Tottenham Hotspur over the past few months.

For reasons known only to those starting the links, Tottenham is a standout destination for the Portuguese midfielder, and has been for a while.

At the end of the summer transfer window it was even claimed that Tottenham were so keen, motivated by Mauricio Pochettino wanting the player, they were ready to accept clauses in a loan agreement. Those clauses would have seen Spurs pay more if Gomes didn’t play enough games.

Other claims had it that Barcelona and Gomes were the more eager parties, with it being retrospectively stated in September the Barcelona player had been offered ‘almost free’ to Tottenham.

In Thursday’s edition of Marca it’s stated Barcelona will look for more sales next summer, to subsidise their out of control wage bill. Gomes is said to be available for €35m, which on the face of it sounds reasonable for Tottenham, but judging purely on the player’s performances at Barcelona could be overpriced.

Indeed, Marca point out Barcelona fans are running out of patience with Gomes, and that’s another thing driving a possible transfer.
