Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães played over 100 minutes in the World Cup qualifiers for Brazil during September’s international break.
On Tuesday, the midfielder started in Seleção’s 1-0 defeat to Paraguay. His performance wasn’t convincing and Brazil manager Dorival Júnior replaced him with Botafogo’s Luiz Henrique after the break.
Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte have been critical of the Newcastle star’s display in the national team’s latest defeat.
They state he ‘failed to play well for the Seleção once again’. Diego Gómez scored the winner in the 20th minute. The 26-year-old is criticised for giving the Inter Miami midfielder ‘too much space’ to control the ball and then score the goal.
Globo rated Guimarães 4/10, while Henrique got 6.5/10. They said the Botafogo player ‘gave life’ to the Brazil side that struggled in the first half.
The fans are also allowed to give their rating for every player, and they were more critical than the outlet. The supporters rated Guimarães 1.5/10.
Guimarães has played every minute in the Premier League this season. Eddie Howe will be hoping for him to shine again for Newcastle when they face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
