With Nabil Fékir set to make his season debut with Lyon on Friday night against Strasbourg, the French media are focusing on the world champion’s summer in their newspapers, which obviously includes his failed transfer to Liverpool.
Speaking to both his agent, Jean-Pierre Bernès, and a one of his close friends, Saïd Mehamha, Le Parisien tried to get a better idea of how the Reds’ target spent his summer after his international success.
“It was a big deception for him when it happened”, said Mehamha, as the Lyon captain ‘really wanted to try something new’, especially after seeing now former teammates like Samuel Umtiti and Corentin Tolisso head to bigger clubs.
However, his agent explains this summer was a poor ones for players wanting to move, with many unable to do so, ‘especially quality forwards’.
That being said, Bernès certainly hinted this campaign will most likely be Fékir’s last at Lyon, saying: “He’s in a very big club. This stuff happens in football. Sometimes, there are things that don’t happen one year but take place the next”.
Depending on the version of events you believe, Liverpool may or may not return next summer for the France international.
One thing is certain, however, and that’s the fact his knee is now absolutely fine, according to Mehamha: “He’s never worried about it. He doesn’t have anymore pain. It’s a lot better since his last surgery”.
