After a week or so of reported Arsenal interest in Nice’s Henrique Dalbert, it’s now Liverpool’s turn to see if they can convince the left-back to leave the sunny French Riviera and come to good ol’ grey England.
One of the many clubs interested in Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy, Jürgen Klopp’s side failed to reach terms with both player and club regarding a potential transfer for the 22-year-old, meaning alternative targets need to be looked at.
Dalbert, who arrived from Vitoria Guimaraes last summer for under £2m, was one of the key components of Lucien Favre’s team who qualified for the Champions League last year by finishing third in Ligue 1.
Making 33 appearances in the league, the 23-year-old helped his team out with four assists, showing some versatility by also playing a bit further forward when needed.
The Gunners were said to be keen, but Mercato365 in France report on Tuesday Liverpool have now turned their attention to the left-back, a position Klopp is determined to improve this summer after playing James Milner there for the best part of the last campaign.
Dalbert is said to be ‘preferring’ Inter Milan’s offer for now, with whom he’s reported to have agreed a five year deal, but with Nice unlikely to want to let him go for less than an ‘XXL offer’ of around €30m, a deal with the Serie A side could prove difficult.
Liverpool, on the other hand, were seemingly prepared to spend upwards of €40m on Mendy, so meeting the Ligue 1 side’s demands for the Brazilian left-back shouldn’t exactly be an issue if Klopp decides he is the man he needs.
This is a new one, but it makes a lot of sense on paper. We’ll be keeping an eye out for any updates.
