The Italian football media love a bit of drama, especially when it comes to transfer rumours.
Fabio Paratici taking over at Tottenham Hotspur, after his departure from Juventus, has provided plenty of ammunition for that. There’s been all-out arguments on Italian TV shows, about whether or not the director did a good job during his time in Turin, and whether he’ll now damage his old club by snatching Juve targets for Spurs instead.
It’s never ending, and Paratici’s recent comments, which appeared to rule out a Tottenham swoop for Dusan Vlahovic, have been widely dismissed since not long after he made them. The Italian feeling is that if Spurs were going for the Fiorentina striker, Paratici would hardly admit it anyway.
CalcioMercatoWeb have a headline reading: ‘Paratici unleashed: 105 million and double insult to Juventus’
To convey the level of drama involved here, their first couple of sentences read: ‘Sometimes exes come back, sometimes they hurt a lot. This is the case of Fabio Paratici.’
And it’s that man Vlahovic, who it’s suggested Tottenham could move for in January, striking a blow to Juve’s chances of signing the player. It’s thought Spurs could spare as much as €60m in the winter market, a figure beyond the Turin club at this time.
The next possible ‘insult’ from Paratici to Juventus would be Tottenham swooping for AS Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, with it again believed Spurs could pay more than the Serie A side.
And it’s the value of those two players which adds up to the €105m figure.
