RB Leipzig defender Benjamin Henrichs has admitted he is still lying in bed thinking about his missed opportunity against Manchester City.
Leipzig hosted Pep Guardiola’s side in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 knockout clash this week, securing a 1-1 draw to leave the tie balanced heading back to the Etihad.
Henrich’s was a key player in the game against Manchester City, playing a starring role at right-back in a tough evening for him and his teammates.
He could have played a more significant role, though, having missed a huge chance in the 55th minute to draw the sides level.
Manchester City were 1-0 in front after Riyad Mahrez pounced on a mistake in the 27th minute but 10 minutes into the second half, Henrichs found himself free in the box but rather than slotting into the bottom corner he put his shot wide of Ederson’s post.
Fortunately that miss didn’t cost his side too much as Josko Gvardiol headed home an equaliser in the 70th minute as reward for an improved second half performance.
Leipzig could have walked away with a famous victory against a fancied Manchester City team if Henrichs had converted his chance, though, something he is more than aware of.
“My chance is extremely painful and upsets me too,” Freie Press report him saying.
“There you lie in bed in the evening, think about it a lot, see the scene again. I have to get the ball on goal so that at least one of our players gets the rebound.”
