As Dutch outlet Trouw today covers Ruud van Nistelrooy’s press conference at PSV, they basically dedicate an entire story about Cody Cakpo and the interest from Manchester United.
The outlet starts by highlighting that the manager, who’s still a hero at Old Trafford, knows how things work in the transfer market and doesn’t show any big worries regarding losing his star in the final days of the transfer window.
PSV are facing Rangers in the Champions League play-offs this week, and according to Trouw, the chances of that being his last appearance for the club ‘seems to have increased in recent days’.
They recall that despite being focused on his club’s qualification, the player has been rejecting their approach for a new contract.
He’s said to be in Erik ten Hag’s list and ‘already held talks’ with Manchester United.
Meanwhile, van Nistelrooy points out that the player hasn’t changed his focus in recent weeks, with the manager trusting him that he’ll continue doing well amid the talks of a move to the Red Devils and claiming he’s ‘extremely clever’ in how he manages the whole situation.
“I’m very calm about that. I’ve had him under me as a trainer for eight weeks now and have never seen him behave differently, in training or in matches. He continues to work on his development, he reaches his level and is not distracted.”
Trouw points out that the fee requested to Manchester United for the move is ‘reportedly’ around €50m.
