For the past year, we’ve been covering the Chilean press’ reaction to Alexis Sanchez’s situation at Arsenal Football Club.
The local newspapers never liked the fact their biggest star hadn’t been fighting for titles, and that’s the reason why they had a go at Arsene Wenger and the Gunners several times.
That’s when the media campaign started, with many stories encouraging Alexis to leave the London side, something that finally became real with the transfer to Manchester United.
And now Arsenal continue to be dismissed in Chile, not only by the local media, but now by the national team manager as well.
Reinaldo Rueda has just been appointed to the job, and in a press conference today he clearly talked about the Manchester United move as an improvement in Alexis Sanchez’ career.
“It’s extraordinary, a source of pride for all of Chile and for us, he’s an international reference, who reaches a great club,” said Rueda.
“I wish him much success and I hope it’s a great success. His arrival is important, the desire of all professionals is to continue growing.” (via AS)
