This weekend, reports from the Honduran press claimed Olimpia striker Jorge Benguche is a target for Celtic.
It was a big deal for the local media to see one of their players being linked to a European side like Celtic, so it’s time to have a few stories about his potential.
La Prensa have an interesting story to present the player, who’s been succeeding for his club Olimpia and the Honduran national team for a couple of years now.
The local league has only been played until the 13th fixture this season, and Benguche had already scored six goals. It’s also pointed out that the striker scored a brace in his debut for the national team last year.
“Jorge Benguche has very good conditions to shine in European football. He has a good physique, he knows how to handle the ball and above all he gets to the area well, a classic nine on the pitch. These are very positive qualities for a footballer who wants to play in the old continent,” said former Elche and Honduras player Gilberto Yearwood.
“He shouldn’t have any fear, he just has to demonstrate all the conditions on the pitch , but I have no doubt that he’ll play in Europe.”
Eduardo Bennet, who also played for Olimpia and the Honduran national team, says he’s been following Benguche for a long time.
“I’ve seen him since he was frown at Info, I think he has a lot of potential. But there are some things that he needs to improve, like the passing game, but his age favours him and he’s an export player (someone who leave the country in a big move).”
Finally, former Santos Laguna star Juan Flores said: “He’s a player who has all the characteristics of a centre forward, he’s powerful, he has good aerial play.”
It hasn’t been said how much Olimpia would demand for Benguche’s transfer, although we’re pretty sure Celtic could afford a transfer like this.
