Marseille have abandoned the idea of signing Illan Meslier from Leeds United this summer, considering him ‘too expensive and too hesitant’.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who report that the Leeds goalkeeper is now off the list of options being looked at by Roberto de Zerbi’s side.

Several reports over the last few weeks had put Meslier on Marseille’s list of potential targets this summer, with them undergoing a major overhaul after securing De Zerbi as manager.

A new goalkeeper is among their priorities, and it had been suggested that Meslier was being looked at, as he’s keen to leave Leeds and avoid another year in the Championship.

He was said to be enthusiastic about the move and Marseille were progressing in talks, although Leeds’ asking price was likely to be prohibitive and something that would need to be worked on.

It seems the idea has now been abandoned, though, with L’Equipe reporting that Marseille are now looking elsewhere.

According to the newspaper they’ve decided Meslier is ‘too expensive and too hesitant’ and so are now focusing on other ideas, leaving him at Elland Road and looking for alternative clubs who may be interested in him.
