Aberdeen have identified Jess Thorup as a managerial target, according to Denmark’s Ekstra Bladet.
The Scottish Premiership club showed Jim Goodwin the exit door in January after winning nine of 23 league games this season.
Aberdeen appointed Barry Robson as interim manager and he’s helped them win four of their last six league games.
In their search for a permanent manager, Aberdeen have set their sights on Thorup, who has been without a job since leaving FC Copenhagen last September. The Danish newspaper are not clear whether Aberdeen have converted their interest into a concrete offer so far.
Either way, Ekstra Bladet suggest Thorup is unlikely to join Aberdeen. That’s because the Scottish club have ‘developed into a bit of a chaos club’ in recent years and they are ‘far from certain’ of being able to fulfil his wage demands. Therefore, the 53-year-old is expected to ‘politely decline’ Aberdeen.
The club doesn’t seem to be the ‘most attractive’ to the Dane, who is aiming for a club in a foreign league that has a higher sporting level and ambitions.
Aberdeen are in fourth spot, 41 and 32 points behind Celtic and Rangers, who are first and second, respectively.
To sum it up, Thorup is unlikely to entertain Aberdeen’s approach for sporting and financial reasons.
