Celtic have ‘surrendered’ to Benfica for forward Jota and are now willing to pay the Portuguese club’s €7.5m demands.
That’s according to A Bola, who say the Scottish giants are ‘under pressure’ to pay up and secure the 22-year-old on a permanent basis.
Jota is spending the season on loan at Celtic Park and has been in impressive form so far, with four goals and five assists in 13 games so far.
He’s very much a key player, and A Bola now report that they are keen to make the move a permanent one.
They explain that Celtic are ‘delighted’ with the development of the 22-year-old and are ‘considering’ a move to buy the under 21 international outright.
Supporters and commentators alike are urging Celtic not to wait until the end of the season to invest and get the player permanently.
His loan deal includes a €7.5m clause to buy 70% of his rights, and Celtic have until the end of the season to activate this option.
They’re considering taking up that option well before that point, though, with pressure from everyone around the club to get it done and secure a player with ‘great’ potential for a ‘low’ price.
Benfica, therefore, are now waiting with some expectation.
