Corinthians’ dream of signing Edinson Cavani from Manchester United is clearly becoming more distant.

Red Devils’ manager Ralf Rangnick has been making it clear that he’d like to count on the striker until the end of the season, harming any hopes that South American clubs have of signing him in the January transfer window.

Now it was time for Cavani’s brother to talk about those chances as well. He had a brief chat with Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, and admitted that the player should end up staying at Old Trafford.

“An exit is difficult,” Walter Guglielmone told Globo Esporte.

Guglielmone, who was said to be in talks with Corinthians for the move, even suggested he’s aware of the Brazilian club’s hunt for a centre-forward, as he said the Timão should swoop for another star for the position.

“I believe Corinthians will go for Diego Costa”, he said.

Edinson Cavani’s contract with Manchester United runs until the end of the season, so we can expect the rumours to only grow in the coming months. Despite his links with European sides such as Barcelona, his wish of returning to South America is why Brazilian and Argentine clubs dream of his signing.
