Back in the last summer, Manchester United invited Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli to have a trial period at the club.

The midfielder was spotted playing for the Red Devils’ U-18 team in a friendly against Lincoln, with the news getting coverage in both the English and Brazilian press.

Even though Manchester United sent the trialist back to his club Ituano, they reached an agreement to have a buying option over the player.

Martinelli finished the 2017 season with Ituano, and ended up getting a new deal at the Brazilian club, with a contract now running until 2022. Quite an unusual thing for small clubs in Brazil.

Now in the past few days, there’s been a claim Manchester United have permanently signed the player. However, in contact with Ituano, Sport Witness has learned otherwise.

The club officialy states that the period for the buying option is gone, and Martinelli is staying.

So unless Manchester United try to take the club’s jewel with a new deal, the 16-year-old isn’t going anywhere for now.
