Everton and West Ham are both ‘interested’ in Aleksandr Golovin this month, a source close to the player has told Sport Witness.

A report from Championat in Russia yesterday stated that both Premier League clubs are keen on the Russian midfielder, who is reportedly ready to take the next step and move on from current club Monaco.

The newspaper named both Everton and West Ham as suitors, with the Toffees pushed ahead of David Moyes’s side because of a mutual appreciation with Rafa Benitez.

While a source close to the player contacted by Sport Witness did not confirm that, they did state that Everton and West Ham are indeed ‘interested’ in the player.

Both clubs have already been in contact with the player’s agent about a potential move, although they have only ‘spoke one time’ at this point.

The big issue is Monaco, who ‘don’t want to sell’ Golovin and are likely to resist both Everton and West Ham should they come calling.

That tallies with what Championat reported on the matter, which stated Monaco weren’t keen on losing a key player and would demand €40-50m for him.

For the moment, Golovin is keeping his cards close to his chest and will wait and see how the ‘situation will develop’ in the coming weeks.

The interest from Everton and West Ham is there nonetheless, and they’ve been in touch, but they both need to convince Monaco into a sale first.
