A couple of days ago, we covered a story from a French journalist claiming that Niels Nkounkou, currently on loan at Standard Liège, could ‘pack his bags’ and leave the Belgian side early.
It was said that disappointing performances were the cause of this, and this despite the player being a regular player and the favoured option in the role by their manager, Luka Elsner.
Since then, a source close to the player told Sport Witness that this wouldn’t be the case, and Nkounkou ‘won’t be moving’ in the January transfer window.
The only rumour that would have made sense would have been for him to return to Everton, but that ‘won’t be happening’ because the player ‘wants game time’ and that was ‘unfortunately complicated to get last season’ at Goodison Park.
That’s why he ‘won’t be returning to Everton right now’, since he’s getting the minutes he wants in Belgium.
As for him playing elsewhere, the 21-year-old wouldn’t be able to feature for any other club other than Standard Liège or Everton for the rest of the campaign since he’s already featured for both this season, starting in the Toffees’ 2-1 win over Huddersfield in the EFL Cup back in August.
