We’ve got some good news and some bad news for Birmingham City fans on Tuesday.
We’ll start with the bad news first.
The bad news is that the Blues’ pursuit for Afriyie Acquah has hit a rather large wall in the shape of Sinisa Mihajlovic, who, as you know, made it clear that the Championship club did not offer anywhere near as much for his midfielder as was reported in the papers.
It seems that talk of a €7.5m bid was way off, and Torino rejected whatever amount Birmingham did put forward for the Ghanaian midfielder.
Sport Witness has learnt that, for now, the message coming from the Serie A side is that the deal is off.
That’s the bad news.
The good news, and this rests entirely on Harry Redknapp and co. between now and the end of the transfer window, is that the door is not closed.
Sport Witness, speaking to someone close to the deal, understands that if the right offer did come along, then Torino would still happily sell Acquah.
If Birmingham City, who appear keen to bolster heavily to help their chances of improving on last season’s misery, bid what the Serie A side are asking for (which seems to be around €8m or so), then the player is theirs.
It’s off, but not over.
The ball is firmly in Harry Redknapp’s hands.
