Yesterday, Sport Witness learnt that while things were looking a bit more glum than usual with Afriyie Acquah to Birmingham City, it wasn’t over yet, and that is still the case today.

On Thursday, Calciomercato.com reported via their Twitter account that the deal was off due to injury problems at Torino scuppering the deal.

However, Sport Witness can confirm that while there is indeed some resistance due to fitness problems within the Serie A squad, the deal potentially taking the Ghanian midfielder to St Andrew’s isn’t completely off.

Acquah is very keen on a move to England, and there is still hope within the player’s camp that a deal can be done with Birmingham City before the end of the transfer window.

The 25-year-old, who arrived from TSG Hoffenheim back in 2015 for just under £3m, gradually made a name for himself under Slavisa Mihajlovic last season, and has started both games since the start of the current campaign, playing all 90 minutes against Bologna at the weekend.

If he were to transfer to Birmingham City for around €8m, it’s clear that Harry Redknapp would make him one of the first names on his team sheet as the former Tottenham manager looks to improve on last season’s disappointing Championship campaign.

In 55 appearances for the Serie A side, Acquah has scored five goals and picked up five assists.
