Rangers are in negotiations for Benfica winger Daniel Candeias, his agent has confirmed to Sport Witness.

The 29-year-old is one of several signings Pedro Caixinha is trying to get to Ibrox early in transfer season, as he sets about building a Rangers squad to get closer to Celtic.

Candeias spent the last season on loan at Turkish side Alanyaspor, where he scored four goals and added four assists. The player is now set to return to Benfica, where he has a contract until 2019, but it’s very likely he will be sent somewhere else again.

Speaking to Sport Witness, Candeias’ representative Antonio Teixeira confirmed Rangers talks, but made it clear nothing is done yet: “There is interest, but we are negotiating.”

Ranger’s biggest competition right now is Alanyaspor, who according to the agent, “are also interested in renewing”.

Teixeira added “they are still seeing” if Rangers and Caixinha will attempt to get the player to Ibrox on loan or on a permanent deal.
